How to Set Unsubscribe in Email Header?

Hello there, Saleshandy users šŸ‘‹

In this guide, you’ll learn how to enable Unsubscribe in Email Header, so your emails show a native unsubscribe button in supported inboxes like Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail.

What Is ā€œUnsubscribe in Email Headerā€ in Saleshandy?

When enabled, Saleshandy adds a List-Unsubscribe header to your outgoing emails.

This allows supported email providers to show a native ā€œUnsubscribeā€ button at the top of the email.

Instead of marking your email as spam, recipients can unsubscribe directly using that built-in option.

Why Use Header Unsubscribe?

Header-based unsubscribe helps:

  • Improve deliverability

  • Reduce spam complaints

  • Provide a frictionless unsubscribe experience

  • Stay aligned with modern sender guidelines

If a recipient’s email provider does not support header unsubscribe, Saleshandy automatically falls back to your selected unsubscribe method.

This is what it looks like:

How to Enable Unsubscribe in Email Header For Your Campaigns

Follow these steps in your Saleshandy dashboard:

  1. Open your Sequence or Campaign

  2. Go to Sequence / Campaign Settings

  3. Locate the unsubscribe options

  4. Enable the checkbox:
    ā˜‘ Unsubscribe in Email Header

You will also see existing options:

  • Unsubscribe as Text (default)

  • Unsubscribe as Link

Header unsubscribe works alongside these options.

How It Works

Once enabled:

  • Saleshandy automatically adds the required List-Unsubscribe headers to outgoing emails.

  • Supported inboxes display a native Unsubscribe button.

  • When a recipient clicks it, they are instantly unsubscribed.

  • No login or confirmation is required.

Optionally, a simple success confirmation page may be shown.

What Happens If Header Unsubscribe Is Not Supported?

Not all email clients support header-based unsubscribe.

If a recipient’s inbox does not support it:

  • The selected fallback method applies automatically.

  • If you selected Text, reply-based unsubscribe will work.

  • If you selected Link, the email body unsubscribe link will work.

There will be no disruption in the unsubscribe process.

Text-based unsubscribe is the default fallback option.

What Gets Tracked

Saleshandy tracks how a contact unsubscribed:

  • Header

  • Link

  • Reply

This helps you understand where unsubscribe actions are coming from.

Important Things to Know

  • Header unsubscribe does not remove existing unsubscribe methods.

  • You are not forced to enable it.

  • It improves compliance and deliverability when supported.

  • It works securely using token-based unsubscribe links.

  • If someone is already unsubscribed, they will not be re-added.

What This Feature Does Not Do

  • It does not remove other unsubscribe options.

  • It does not force header unsubscribe on unsupported inboxes.

By enabling Unsubscribe in Email Header, you provide a smoother opt-out experience while improving deliverability and compliance across supported email providers.
