There's a simple reason prospects don't answer calls from unfamiliar area codes: they assume it's spam.
When your rep in New York calls a prospect in Austin from a 212 number, that prospect sees an out-of-state number they don't recognize. The call goes unanswered. The voicemail goes unheard. The deal stalls.
Local presence solves this. Here's how it works in Saleshandy and why it's worth setting up.
What Local Presence Does
Local presence automatically selects an outbound phone number that matches the area code or region of the prospect you're calling, before every call, without any manual input from your rep.
The prospect sees a number that looks like it could be a local business, a colleague, or someone they've spoken to before. That familiarity is enough to shift the answer/ignore calculation in your favor.
How It Works in Practice
When your rep opens the dialer to call a prospect, Saleshandy checks the prospect's area code or region and matches it against the phone numbers in your account. The best match is selected automatically and shown in the "Call Via" field.
Your rep doesn't need to think about which number to use. The system handles it.
If no matching number is found for a specific region, Saleshandy falls back to your designated primary number automatically. No call fails, no rep has to choose manually.
Setting Your Primary Fallback Number
Your primary number is the fallback for calls where no regional match exists. To set it:
Go to Phone Number Management
Find the number you want to designate as primary
Select "Mark as Primary" from the action menu
Only the account owner can set the primary number. This is intentional, the primary number is a system-level setting that affects every rep's calls, so it needs owner-level authorization to change.
Number Rotation
Local presence works alongside number rotation, which is a related but distinct feature.
When you have multiple numbers in the same region, number rotation distributes calls across all of them rather than sending everything through one number.
This balances load and reduces the risk of any single number accumulating enough outbound volume to be flagged as spam by carriers.
Local presence picks the right region. Rotation picks the number within that region to use.

How Many Numbers Do You Need?
You need at least two numbers in different regions to get value from local presence. One number can't match multiple regions; it can only represent one area code.
The more geographic coverage you have, the more effectively your local presence can match prospect locations. If most of your prospects are concentrated in a few metro areas, buying numbers in those areas will have the highest impact on your connect rate.
Overriding the Auto-Selected Number
Local presence is automatic but not mandatory. If a rep needs to use a specific number for a particular call, they can switch it before dialing.
In the dialer pop-up, the "Call Via" field shows the auto-selected number. Click the dropdown to see all available numbers and choose a different one. The override applies only to that call, the next call will use auto-selection again.
What the Prospect Actually Sees
Prospects see the actual purchased phone number that Saleshandy selected for the call. These are legitimately acquired numbers, not masked, not spoofed, not virtual overlays.
This matters for two reasons. First, callbacks work. If a prospect misses your call and calls back, it rings back to your Saleshandy number and gets handled correctly. Second, there's no compliance risk from number spoofing; you're using real numbers that you own.
Verifying Which Number Was Used
After any call, you can see exactly which number was used by checking the Call Log. Each entry shows the phone number used for that call. The Call Log Detail page also shows "Called via" for outgoing calls.
This is useful for auditing, for coaching reps on number selection, and for understanding which numbers are generating the most connected calls in a given region.
The Connect Rate Impact
Connect rate is the most important metric in outbound calling. Everything downstream, talk time, pipeline movement, revenue, depends on prospects actually picking up.
Local presence is one of the highest-leverage changes you can make to your outbound setup because it directly addresses the single biggest reason calls go unanswered: unfamiliar area codes.
Combine it with calling during appropriate local hours for each prospect's region, and the effect compounds further.
